Leonard Gontarek is the author of four books of poems:

St. Genevieve Watching Over Paris, Van Morrison Can’t Find His Feet, Zen For Beginners and Déjà Vu Diner.

His poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, Field, Poet Lore, Verse, Hanging Loose, Painted Bride Quarterly, Poetry Northwest, and in the anthologies, The Best American Poetry, The Working Poet and Joyful Noise: American Spiritual Poetry.
He conducts poetry workshops at the Moonstone Art Center, the Kelly Writers House and Muse House.

He has been a PEW fellowship finalist twice, has received five Pushcart Prize nominations, and twice received poetry fellowships from the Pennsylvania Council On The Arts.
He was the 2011 Philadelphia Literary Death Match Champion.
He coordinates The Philadelphia Poetry Festival, Peace/Works: Poetry Readings for Peace, the Green Line Café reading and interview series, and hosts The Monday Poets Series at the Philadelphia Central Library.

Corina Dross arrives at the GL Baltimore this week!

West Philadelphia-based artist Corina Dross will be hanging her new show, Echo Chamber, at the Green Line Baltimore later this week.

“Echo Chamber

In the resonant chambers of the heart and folds of the brain, we amplify and distill our memories. Some details are lost; others grow in vibrancy. Chemicals pulse through our shifting neural networks, subtly altering the stories we tell about what has happened to us; what we have witnessed; who we’ve been.

These portraits are experiments in distillation and amplification. Working from photo booth photos, I’ve responded not only to the dramatic flattening in the photos themselves, but to the nature of our nostalgia about these artifacts. Casting my friends as characters from Greek mythology, these ink-wash drawings play with the ways we perform for the flashbulb, and question the conventions around whose stories get to become iconic and eternal.

Artist Bio:

Corina Dross is an artist and illustrator whose work is often small, narrative, and sequential. Currently fascinated by neuroscience, mythology, and other systems of belief and inquiry, she enjoys unusual juxtapositions of images with text. Her artwork has mostly recently appeared in the 2012 Women Artists Datebook and she is best known for her illustrated card deck, Portable Fortitude, now in its third printing. About Colosseum:

Displaced from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, Katie Ford returns this powerful report attesting to the storm’s ferocity and its aftershock. Ford examines other catastrophes – those biblical, obscured by time, and those that play out daily, irrefutably, in the media. Colosseum is an essential, moving book in its insistence that our fates are intertwined and that devastation does not discriminate.

Katie Ford is the author of Deposition and Colosseum. Ford is the recipient of a Lannan Literary Fellowship and the Larry Levis Prize. Colosseum was named among the “Best Books of 2008” by Publishers Weekly and the Virginia Quarterly Review. Her poems have appeared in The New Yorker, The Paris Review, The American Poetry Review, Ploughshares, and many other journals. She teaches at Franklin & Marshall College and lives in Philadelphia with her husband, the novelist Josh Emmons, and their daughter.

The new show from Alicia Neal & Justin Gray, Dummo and the Queen, will be presented with a reception on Friday, April 13th (7 – 9pm).

“Alicia and Justin both studied illustration at the University of the Arts here in Philadelphia, between around the years 1998-2005.

Drawing on influences from her friends, the natural world, and observations from everything spanning the breadth of seasonal change to mythological creatures and dreams, Alicia creates painterly, mixed media pieces on and using a variety of mediums, in a neo-classical illustration style.

Justin in a nerd brained kook with a love of space marines, video games, and beefy dudes punching each other in movies. He uses a base of hand drawings to create complex, single digital images detailing entire worldscapes, food, and nonsense.”
