SCALLION
Scallion is the songwriting and recording project of Darian Scatton, founder of Philly label Edible Onion, and member of Br’er. Scallion’s music is rooted in the tradition of the bittersweet pop song, but always done with an air of discovery. The work of a multi-instrumentalist, the music is amorphous and hard to pin down, ever-changing and shifting in color and tone. On record, dense, jubilant passages of bells, plucked autoharp, reeds and percussion give way to organs and multi-layered cello arrangements in one song, while another features a lone pedal harp accompanied by six clarinets. Highly lyrical music is often pared with songs about loneliness, alienation, and loss of innocence. Live, the band condenses the recordings into arrangements that are playable by a trio or quartet, but nonetheless, still vary widely in color and scope.
CHRISTOPHER BELL

In the past three years Bell has spent over eighteen months on the road across 42 states and even embarked on a 550 mile canoe tour across NY state’s Erie Canal and Hudson River
