summer-youth-09-128summer-youth-09-130Philadelphia BUSTED! is part of a state-wide anti-tobacco coalition led by youth for youth. BUSTED! began in 2001 with 400 high school students from across Pennsylvania. Their mission is to end the manipulation by Big Tobacco of their family and friends. Because cigarette butts are the most common form of litter, this summer the BUSTED! youth decided to combine their concern for the environment with their passion to raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco. On August 19th, 2009, BUSTED! youth partnered with UC Green to clean up a neighborhood playground at 48th and Woodland in West Philadelphia. Despite the summer heat, the youth came together in the morning to gather trash, sweep sidewalks, and pick up plant debris.
