Hernease Davis | Clark Park Night Photos

Hernease Davis

Through June 2009
Green Line Cafe | 43rd & Baltimore

Hernease Davis is a professional photographer who focuses on dancers and performing artists in Philadelphia. This fall, she will be an MFA candidate at the International Center of Photography – Bard College in New York City.

This series of photographs were taken at night, and West Philadelphia’s Clark Park serves as the setting for most of them. The idea came from being curious of what light exists after sunset, and how to take advantage of its limited amount in order to create dynamic images. For such photographs, exposures lasted between 4-120 seconds to capture enough available light to illuminate the scene and the subjects. Davis’ approach to this series was experimental and reflects her love of light, unique perspectives, movement, and Clark Park.

Hernease’s friends are the models featured in these photographs. She thanks them for their patience, movement, and for staying extremely still.
