Green Line is even Greener thanks to Pedal Co-op

Woody of The Pedal Co-op

Woody of The Pedal Co-op

In the spring of 2007, then-23-year old John Paul Woodburn — or just Woody for short — founded an innovative urban recycling and compost disposal program that runs on nothing but man power and simple machines.  Three years later, Woodburn found himself running an effective and environmentally friendly non-profit called The Pedal Cooperative.

The idea is simple: recycling-by-bicycle.  The Pedal Co-op serves nearly fifty clients for recycling — which gets biked to Blue Mountain Recycling Center in Gray’s Ferry — and nearly eighty-five clients for composting – which is delivered to a community garden in West Philly.  Woodburn himself and his eight employees do work for Metropolitan Bakery, The Grid, and yours truly, all of whom are excited about being part of a more sustainable lifestyle.
